The Indian company Ford Motor perhaps best known for its heavy trucks, has handed the keys to its high-quality Jaguar Land Rover branding to the world’s largest car manufacturer
On Wednesday, Ford and Tata Motors announced the expected deal, in which Tata (pronounced TAH-tah) will pay $2.3 billion for the two brands, costing Ford $5.3 billion. Tata says the deal obliges Ford to pay about $600 million to Jaguar Land Rover’s pension fund at closing, but Ford will net only about $1.7 billion, according to a company statement. When Ford bought the brand from BMW in March 2000, it had cost $2.8 billion and was a better deal. At the time, Land Rover responded by filling Range Rover with a hand-built two-door variant, which the company later abandoned.
The design language is ubiquitous at Land Rover and Jaguar, and the honeycomb structure of the grill, which forms the basis of the interface, is indispensable.
Bentley pointed to a car with an optional off-road suspension that the car manufacturer sold long before Land Rover’s first patent, and this triggered a process in which Land Rover rewrote the details for more clarity and accused Bentley of imitation. In July, Land Rover sent two further infringement letters to Audi and Lamborghini for driving modes in the Audi R8 and Porsche Cayenne, respectively, according to the complaint. She has also sent Porsche a letter claiming her Cayennes now infringe the Terrain Response patent and require a licence.
J Pace is said to be selling the Porsche Cayenne, although it could also tarnish the prospects of Range Rover. Land Rover is the long-promised but delayed introduction of the SUV, but an even bigger seller is coming, even if it may prove costly for Land Rover.
In September 2013, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it would enter the luxury segment with the Jaguar XJ electric vehicle, which is due to be launched in the UK in 2015. The acquisition was completed on June 2, 2008 and the parent company was renamed Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC. On 1 January 2013, the group, which has been operating under the name Jaguar Cars Limited since the takeover, underwent a fundamental restructuring and was merged into Jaguar Land Rover Limited. All Jaguar Cars Limited assets, with the exception of certain Chinese shares, have been transferred to Land Rover. The parent company has since been renamed Jaguar – Land Rover Autom Automotive Group and the parent company JagCar Group, a joint venture between Jaguar Car Group and JLR. In addition, Jaguar cars Limited was officially renamed Jaguar Land Rover Limited on 1 June 2014, with the same name and logo.
Ford Motor bought Jaguar in 1999 before selling it to Tata Motors in 2008, but it remains surprising that Ford sold its premium British brand to an Indian company whose car experience is predominantly low-cost small cars, despite Tata being named the main bidder for the brand in January. When BMW parted with the Rover Group in 2000, it retained ownership of the brand and then licensed it to MG Rover. The latter was taken over by Land Rover from BMW and the Jaguar – Land Rover brand was reunited with the BMW brand when BMW parted company with the Rover Group. In 2000. BMW did not retain the brand when it separated the Range Rover and Land Rover brands from Jaguar Group.
We believe that Tata Motors Jaguar’s leadership is committed and that the initial measures must be painful, but they will not cause Jaguar any long-term problems.
